Recall and Regret ~~~ (2019)
Recall and regret that deep dark night
When the war was o'er. We'd won the fight
Almost made peace, almost struck light
But you were too cold to forgive.
Recall and regret with a bitter chill
What lives were laid upon your will;
What hopes were dashed and yet you still
Would not but say “Forgive.”
Recall and regret your frozen heart
That as it cooled so tore apart
The peace we'd gained. No warming start
Of love could make you forgive.
Recall and regret the great forfeit
Of love and trust you made – and yet
You would not thaw – would not let
Your heart but say “Forgive.”
Recall and regret as by the sword
Of your own pride – of your cold word
Your faithful fall, and in accord
say “Why could you not forgive?”
Recall and regret as all alone
You face the world – your heart is stone
Your flesh is frost and ice be bone
For none now can forgive.

Woah, this poem is spectacular - the message it conveys is somber, reluctant, and miserable, and your writer's voice clearly shines through! THat picture is also epic!
