Crown is a Noun
Crown is A Noun
Peter was walking down the road
And picking up a crown
He put it on his tawny head
Saying “This is a noun.”
A goat was trotting up the ditch
And looking ‘neath the crown
He saw Peter, and then exclaimed
“That is a proper noun!”
A girl was sitting on the road
And staring at the curb
She saw Peter jump up on it.
She said: “Why, that’s a verb!”
“How nicely put,” Peter replied
Jumping down off the curb.
He stopped, laughed once, and then declared:
“Imagine! An adverb!”
“I’ll have that,” the goat then said
And seizing Peter’s crown,
He ran off down the road with it.
Called: “That is a pronoun!”
“Come back with that!” Peter shouted
In quite a flaming passion
The girl clapped twice and said with joy
“Now that’s a preposition!”
“You lousy goat, bring back my crown!”
Peter roared, and reflexive-
Ly he stopped, said to himself,
“There goes an adjective.”
“All right,” the goat replied, because
He had had no intention
Of stealing Peter’s crown at all.
He said: “Just a conjunction.”
“Oh!” Peter gasped, taking back
His crown. The realization
That the goat had meant no harm
Struck as: “An interjection!”
Peter the man, the wily goat,
The girl and Peter’s crown
Went together down the road
Singing: “Crown is a noun!”
